Church History

In October 1978 the first worship service of the Tabernacle of David Missionary Baptist Church was held in the Vallejo Veteran's Building at 444 Alabama Street.

In the winter of 1978, Deacon John Davis found a 'for-rent' sign at 551 Sonoma Boulevard in the City of Vallejo. Pastor McCray and Deacon Davis went through the necessary channels to rent the building.

They prayed, believed and agreed that God would bless and He did. The families came together and worked

to turn a run down old building into a Sanctuary of Praise, affectionately known as 'Little Tab'.

As we grew in faith and in knowledge of the Lord, the Lord added to the body. God added men to assist

our Pastor in the ministry. Ministers and Deacons were added, the Cook Clan, the Walker Clan, the Slocums, the Crummies, the Guice family, just to name a few. Musicians were Melvin Carter, James Prothro and

Henry Williams on Saxophone. God was growing us at a fast rate and we soon needed more room.

In 1982, Pastor McCray received a call from a friend and pastor, who knew that he was looking for another place of worship. He informed him that he had seen a 'for sale' sign on an old store along the side of the freeway,. Acting upon this information, Pastor McCray, on his way home from work, being led of the Spirit

of God, stopped in at 1100 Lincoln Road East and inquired about the property.

Again we prayed, believed and agreed that God was going to bless, and again He did. The families of Tabernacle came together again and worked to turn an old run down Grocery store into a place of Praise

and Worship unto God. God again added to the Body daily, like he said He would.

In 1982, Pastor McCray was directed by the Spirit of God to begin the process of building a bigger place

of worship. The families of Tabernacle came together once again, they prayed, believed and agreed that,

God would do just what He said and brought their faith to sight. There were many obstacles, and I mean many. Many people said, "It would never come to pass, and that we didn't and would never have the

finances to do it." But through God's grace on October 27, 2002, Tabernacle's Corporate Body marched

into the very place they said we couldn't or wouldn't. There's a Song: "Nobody but you Lord, nobody but you, nobody but you Lord nobody but you!." "They said we couldn't do it, yet, you said all things are possible". 'Nobody but you Lord nobody but you'.

God has added to our body 500 plus members and He continues to add. As we celebrate our 44rd year of God's blessings for Tabernacle this 2020 year, we thank God for our decrease as He increases in us.

Let us continue to "Let the Will of the Lord be Done in us, and let us keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus".
